Research
Although the management and operation of the Murwillumbah Museum and collection is now fully in the hands of Tweed Shire Council's Museum staff, Society members remain very closely engaged with the Museum, its exhibits, activities and operation while being able even more to pursue research and other coordinated activities across any relevant area.
Below are just some examples of the exciting activities in which our members meet our key goals of researching, preserving and promoting the rich history of the Tweed Valley:
- Undertaking structured and directed research activities into:
- Existing and new collection items on behalf of and in conjunction with the Museum
- Assisting the Museum in developing new displays and activities
- The rich built-environment legacy we enjoy in our district e.g. our treasured streetscape of art deco and other heritage buildings
- Interviewing and capturing the personal, human stories of prominent citizens, descendants of Tweed Valley pioneers, long-term residents, local characters etc.
- Famous and long-term local businesses
- Natural events which have impacted on our area
- The history of local sporting groups, sporting facilities and institutions
- Family history research for the public
- Famous people from the district, and
- Any other research the Society may wish to undertake independently
- Support the Museum in the development of Fact Sheets and other written material pertaining to the Museum collection or other historical matters
- Working with the Museum to catalogue, expand and research the photographic collection
- With training, use the Vernon software and contribute to its data store
- Production of booklets and other publications to publish the results of research activities where appropriate
- Join the happy Timelines newsletter team in research, story writing, conduct of interviews, newsletter production etc.
